CALL TO ACTION FOR BUSINESSES BY INDIA'S MINISTER OF STATE FOR ELECTRONICS AND INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY:

Rajeev Chandrasekhar, India's Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology, has said that organisations will be expected to comply with the Digital Data Protection Act within one year. The Minister also stated that Indian DPA members will be appointed within 30 days and the organisation will be responsible for taking action against breaches of the law. 

In addition, he stated that data breaches will accumulate until the board is formed and these breaches will be addressed after the board is formed.

ICO HAS PUBLISHED GUIDANCE ON BULK EMAIL COMMUNICATIONS IN ORGANISATIONS:

The guidance published by the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) sets out the issues and examples of good practice that should be considered in relation to the protection of personal data in email communications within organisations. In this context, issues such as the use of CC and BCC, the use of alternative methods that are more secure than BCC in mailings containing sensitive data, and staff training on the subject were included in the guidance.

TURKISH MINISTRY OF NATIONAL EDUCATION AMENDED THE REGULATION ON SECONDARY EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS:

According to the amendment to the Regulation on secondary education institutions made by the Ministry of National Education, the school administration should carry out the works and transactions related to the processing of personal data of students within the scope of The Turkish Data Protection Law, and in cases where there are no other processing conditions, the personal data of students cannot be processed without the explicit consent of the parents/guardians or the person concerned.

FRENCH MEP CHALLENGES THE DATA TRANSFER AGREEMENT BETWEEN THE EUROPEAN UNION AND THE UNITED STATES:

French MEP and CNIL member Philippe Latombe has announced that he is calling for the cancellation of the agreement that allows companies to transfer data freely between the EU and the US. 

In his statement, Latombe emphasised that the agreement violates the European Union's Charter of Fundamental Rights and the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation by failing to provide adequate safeguards for respect for private and family life.

COUNTRIES WITH DATA PROTECTION LAWS IN FORCE FOR THE FIRST TIME:

•India's first data protection law, the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, was published in the Official Gazette on 11 August 2023.

•In Algeria, the "Law Relating to the Protection of Individuals in the Processing of Personal Data" entered into force on 10 August 2023.
